About

Hi!

My name is Shirley, and this is my website.

Here you will find two things:

  1. My ✨blog✨where I write (but mostly overthink, really) about things that interest me, and
  2. My "resume" in a format that makes sense for me, who I am, and what I do professionally.

You see, after six years of a thankless job working retail, I realized I did not want to work my life away making money for companies that only want to exploit their employees. Companies that expect full loyalty and commitment from the people who work for them, while refusing to take responsibility for what that means in the "real world". Companies that measure value in terms of standardized performance numbers that don't fully reflect what the human being working for them brings to the table. With that, I decided I wanted to be part of things that matter to me and that make a positive impact on the lives of others.

This is a promise I have kept for ten years now by working for non-profits, small start-ups, and education institutions in roles that very often have been multi-disciplinary, making my last 10 years of professional experience very hard to convey in a traditional resume.

The Subscription

Why should you subscribe?, you ask? Well, the Internet is dark and full of terrors, and it would be kind of awful if we never crossed paths again (it would definitely make me very sad).

So, by subscribing to the "Newsletter" you'll be hearing from me under exactly two scenarios: first, when/if there is anything newsworthy, and second, every three months or so, when I send out a TLDR recap so you don't forget about me.

That being said, there soon will be an option for a paid subscription that will give you immediate access to all that I publish.

The subscription will be $6/month for the Early Subscribers Tier (available for a limited time). The regular Supporter Tier will be $10/ month (less than $2.5 per weekly publication), and $78 if you pay for a full year in advance (that's a 35% discount!).

HOWEVER!

As someone with a background in academic research and education, I HATE paywalls. They stifle the dissemination of knowledge, and are an obstacle for accessibility.

This is why all "pay walled" content becomes "public" after 60 days.
